Kicking things off:

To all those of you going to Escapade, safe travels and happy gathering!

To those of you who are not going (like me), I issue the following challenge: sometime in the next 3 days, post something to your LJ that you think people would like to talk about, have an actual discussion about, whether it's just "Why We Love {Character/Show/Episode/Book/Plot}" or an analysis or a metacommentary or even a "How do you explain/avoid explaining this wacky fandom thing to friends/family/co-workers?" Then, as you read your friends list, make a point of digging a couple of layers into comments.

I know, I know, we do that anyway. But there is cool discussion going on this weekend that I can be there for, so I want the next best thing, dammit, even if I'm going to be at my mother's and barely able to participate.

ETA: However folks want to handle the structure here is fine with me, but I figure this can be our all-purpose linking back post. If you post something in your LJ, just comment here with a link.

I posted thoughts on chosen families on Buffy, Firefly, and Veronica Mars, and an open question about why this trope might appeal as much as it does.

Got pointed to this post, and think it's a great idea... so here! :D WHY exactly is incest so much more popular in slash fandom than in het?

I have a not-so-secret fear that we may be rehashing discussions others have already had in different contexts, but we're talking about romance, OTP paradigms, and slash as a genre, in this post and in the essays linked from it.

I just posted my thoughts on Blood and Chocolate (the book), the importance of equality between love interests, having the love interests be similar to each other, and which touches on Buffy and why she always went for the vampires as well as Kitty & The Midnight Hour here:

sorta ongoing meta about amnesia and the "Burnett" episodes of Miami Vice:

part one and part two as well as a huge rambling discussion of vice topics in the comments section of this post in which, of all things, MV is compared to Twin Peaks.

A critique of a video by a Korean boy band leads to discussion of female sexuality, racism, feminism, and the horror of the '70s. The video is linked in the post, with subtitles.
